I want to purcahse a PA 63 9x18mm Hungarian Walther PPK clone. Can anyone tell me if they are reliable........
and acurrate. Pretty much any info would be appreciated, especially firsthand. Thanks.
Well, I work at a gunstore so I've played with both the real deal Walther's, the Smith and Wesson copies and the PA63. First and foremost, don't buy a Smith and Wesson PPK, they are junk. I have never seen so much problems with a gun like that. Honestly, they blow up more than Hi-Points and/or Kel-Tecs. The Bersa .380 Thunder is another PPK clone and they are utter trash too. The milling is atrocious (the slide actually whistles when you rack it back!). With regards to the PA63, they aren't as nice and classy as the real deal PPK, but they weren't meant to be. I have been wanting a PA63 for a while and one came in the store today so a coworker bought it for me just for grins. I've shot them before and never noticed the "flip" people talk about but then again I have been shooting 45 ACP almost exclusively for the last few years. I'll take my new toy on the range tomorrow and put a few hundred through it on the clock and tell you tomorrow what went down. But for a quick and dirty answer, the PA63 is far superior to most of the other PPK clones, including the licensed Smith copies. For the ~$120 I've seen them on military surplus fliers they are a fun gun for a great price.

Why does James Bond like the Walther PPK pistol so much?
Why didn't Bond go for a 1911, a Glock, or a Beretta M9 pistol?
Ian Fleming (the creator of James Bond), as a member of Britain's NID (Naval Intelligence Division), during World War Two, learned many things. One of which was that "John Wayne Guns" aren't really the best for covert, knees bent, creeping about advancing behavior. Most real world operatives used short barrelled (usually 3-inch, less machined threads), custom made and silenced Colt Woodsman or Colt Huntsman .22 caliber pistols. Remember, a 39 gr., .22 caliber bullet through the back of your head at point blank range will kill just as efficiently as would a .45, but with a heck of a lot less noise and mess. There were other weapons, like the OSS "Stinger", which was a simple pen-sized and shaped, single shot pistol that fired a .22 short. It was also called the "Earwig", because that's where it was usually placed just before firing.
In the 1950's, after Fleming wrote "Casino Royal", where Bond carried a 1930's era Beretta (which Fleming mis-spelled), a firearms enthusiast named Geoffrey Boothroyd contacted Fleming and suggested that "Bond should carry something more substantial, like the Walther PPK" which gun, as stated by "Q" in "Doctor No", "Is like a brick through a plate glass window"
Right...it's a .32acp...a real powerhouse.
Remember, Euro-types don't understand stopping power. But then again, we Americans don't understand that with professional killers, less is more. A well placed shot means that it's a well placed shot. Ask the Mossad.
Dead is dead.
Hope this helps
