Barrel Clamp
Barrel Clamp
What would happen if i clamped a home made .50 BMG Bullet to a vice and fired it?
-the casing is made of brass.
-the tip is made of dense steel (heavier than case + gunpowder).
- gunpowder is compressed in the casing.
- What are the safety hazards???
-The bullet will not be fired from a barrel
-Need help on making the primer.
Well firstly live 50BMG ammo and primers are easy enough to buy from a gunstore so not sure why you would bother with any of this
But as to the hazards and results.
1. The problem is the force acting on propelling the bullet forward in this case will also be acting on propelling the case backwards.
The whole idea of a gun is also to serve as a launching pad. The base of the case rests against the bolt face, so all the force is applied to the bullet going forwards.
brass cases are not that strong.Even slightly squishing the case to hold it securely in the vice, and not supporting it on the other sides(like a guns chamber would do), you are probably looking at a severe split or rupture.
2.If the bullet still fires out it will probably be with less than 20% its normal power.A bullet picks up most of its speed in the barrel where it has the hot gas from the burning powder pushing behind it.
Also without rilfing it will start to tumble in flight, probablly sideways or worse, especially if the case ruptures.
3. Powder types. There are dozens, each suited for certain cases. The 50BMG uses a slow burning powders. If you cram a load of pistol powder into one it will completely obliterate the case.
As to primers, no one hand makes them in the world. They contain a small amount of high explosive in them which is what ignites the powder charge. You are not going to be obtain it.
If you are really that keen to hear things go bang get your pa to buy you a rifle and go shooting.
Later on you can buy a cheap 50BMG rifle for $1500.
