Right Hand
Right Hand
What does it mean when a right-handed person stops using their right hand in favor of their left hand?
My friend's friend apparently usually writes with his right hand, but all of a sudden he started using his left hand. And his right hand writes eligibly but his left hand is chicken scratch, so no one can tell when he writes down anymore. He still acts the same, apparently, but he won't stop using his left hand. And no, his right hand isn't injured or anything. He just won't use it. Even for Schoolwork. Is something wrong with him? Is it a sign, or something?
No. Maybe it just feels more comfortable to him. And while most people claim to be ambidextrous only very few are truly ambidextrous. It isn't going to hurt him, and it isn't a sign of anything. It may actually improve some of the functioning on the right side of his brain, he may start to show greater ability at art, music, spatial orientation.

A lot of companies in the current climate do not have the capital to outlay for a nice new truck, this is well reflected in the downturn of new truck/car sales over the past year. This has had a knock on effect to the used truck market.
When the demand for a new product falls (in this case new trucks), manufactures tend to drop prices in order to attract potential buyers. This in turn knocks the cost of second hand trucks down.
But it's not the full story
With cars this hasn't quite worked this way. The government's scrappage scheme has meant that any old second hand rust bucket is worth the scrap trade in value. This coupled with the fact that the cars 'scrapped' are literally scrapped, Equalling less used cars to buy, therefore pushing the used car market prices up.
With trucks there is no such scheme, meaning now you can pick up a used truck for a few thousand a good example of this can be found at pacific autos used trucks (see below).
So now is a good time for buyers to find a great deal, but i don't see it lasting and here is why.
If you are a truck driver or company owner, be you own a DAF, MAN, MERC, VOLVO you probably know only too well what a pain keeping an older truck up and running for use in the UK can be. The yearly MOT is like prison room search. The Operators ticket and the hoops you need to jump through to get and maintain everything to do with your trucking business.
Well perhaps you didn't know that, several countries look to the UK for their supply of used trucks for this very reason. There are markets all over the world for right hand drive trucks and the UK market is prime. After all would you buy a truck from a country in Africa or Eastern Europe? The rules are slack, and trucks possibly not that well maintained? As an African though, buying a truck from the UK is a no brainer, right now the exchange rate is great for exports, meaning a used truck bought from the uk, then shipped half way around the world is still a great purchase.
So what does all this mean?
It means, the recession has driven the cost of used trucks down, exportation will however increase the demand for used trucks over the next year or so. Expect the cost of second hand trucks to climb, but as for now, if you're looking for a second hand buy, now is the time.
