What is a good scope that can withstand recoil of 300 win mag?
I have a savage 110 fp in 300 win mag. I have a harris bipod, and am trying to get a sniper sort of set up. I will be shooting it at 100 yards to however far my scope allows me too. I was wondering what a good scope is that can withstand the recoil of the 300 win mag and last a lifetime. Leupold seems to be recommended a lot, but if I get a Bushnell or another brand scope, I can get one with a lot more zoom compared to the leupolds. Like the Bushnell elite 4200 is a 6-24 x 40, and for less than 500. In a leupold VX III for the same price you only get a 3-9 x 40. I need a variable zoom scope, that allows me to shoot long distance, and that is well made and will last. Something under 500 dollars.
In my opinion, you can spend a helluva lot more money for a scope, but you can't get a better scope than a Leupold.
I'd suggest a Vari-X II or Vari-X III with a 50mm objective and variable power, either 3-9X or 4-12X.
The bad thing about Leupold Scopes is that if you don't hit what you are shooting at, you have to blame the crank yanking the trigger rather than the scope.
