Hunting Equipment: Five Essential Rules to Keep in Mind
When you are just a beginning hunter, you may not know there are a number of regulations regarding the use of your new equipment. We think all hunters should be secure and get the most out of their new hunting equipment, so we encourage you to follow these five etiquette rules to make the most of your next hunting adventure:
#1: Utilize all weapons with respect.
The first basic safety measure is based on the straightforward rule of always being careful with a loaded gun. Be sure you point the gun safely. Never aim at anything you don’t intend to kill. Never be uncertain about what it is you’re shooting at when you are aiming through the gun sights. Keep guns unloaded until you’re ready to take a shot. Finally, leave your finger away from the trigger until you’re ready to fire the gun. You need to treat all weapons as if they are loaded. So many incidents have occurred where a person thought a weapon was empty and it released a shot surprisingly with a fatal outcome.
#2: All targets should be easy to see and identify|Make sure you can see your target plainly|Any target needs to be easy to recognize|Your target should be clearly in your sight and identifiable}.
Unless you can see it plainly, do not fire! People have accidentally shot other people (including children) thinking at they were looking at an animal. If you see your target, don’t shoot until you are certain nothing is beyond it. If an animal is on a hillside or ridge, do not shoot since you can’t be sure what’s beyond the ridge.
#3: Make sure you know up to date regulations concerning the use of certain equipment.
In the past, bows and arrows were an excellent option for killing game. However, it’s now illegal to hunt animals with archery hunting gear. You may still use bows and arrows on targets.
#4: Safeguard yourself.
Don’t make yourself a target for a novice shooter. Wear bright coloured clothing so it is easy to see that you are a person. You should also wear ear and eye protection. The glasses will shield your eyes from the gases discharged from the gun. The ear protection may keep you from harming your hearing from being subjected to the loud noise created from shooting.
#5: Don’t be needlessly cruel when hunting game.
