Cannon Downrigger Fishing Equipment
Do you sometimes find that, when you are out fishing, you really need to drop your bait down deep to catch those fish? Fish are not always the most cooperative of creatures and dont always hang out near the surface, where it is a simple process to catch them. If your depth sounder is alerting you to fish down [deeper|in the depths, a downrigger can really be of help.
What exactly is a downrigger?
It is really simple. It is just a spool that will hold between 200 " 600 feet of steel cable. Attached to this is a weight of between 6 " 12 pounds. In addition to this, there is a quick-release line gripper, as is used with a clothespin.
How does it operate?
The fishing lines from your rods are connected to the quick-release device. Once this is secure, the whole assembly is dropped down to the depth you desire. By doing this, the bait is far enough from the weight and line gripper so it will not spook the fish. If you get a bite, the line is disconnected from the gripper, so it is just a battle between you and the fish!
Some downriggers are equipped with fish-attractant properties (either electrical, or a special kind of paint), but not the majority of them.
There are several companies that specialize in the making of downriggers. Theor mechanisms include basic models for the recreational fishermen up to highly sophisticated models for commercial fishing [concerns|operators. Cannon are one such company and they offer a complete range of downriggers, from a manual feed to an electronic motor quick release operation. Also on offer is a combination fish finder and downrigger " perfect for catching the fish you locate in the depths!
Downriggers are in their element when used for deep trolling and some even come equippped with an electronic crank that will raise up the entire assembly. If you need to access deeper schools of fish, these are highly recommended.
