What is the Best replacement stock for the Chinese SKS??
I have a Chinese Norinco SKS and i want to put a new stock on it. There is ATI and some other companies that make them , I am thinking I want the 6 positon T6 type on it. Anyone put an aftermarket stock on there Chinese SKS? How does it fit? How long does it take to put on. What company or style did you use? How much did you pay? Thanks for your help... I stated Chinese because the Yugo SKS are a bit different, a bit thincker wood....I think the Russian and Chinese are the same...
Ati? Or is there anything better?
Thanks for all your help guys.....Good stuff....
ATI makes good products. Their "ultralight folder" ($40) is great if you need "compact" for storage and all, but it's hard to really use well by itself unless you buy a cheek pad to raise your line of sight. Their "Fiberforce dragunov" ($40-50) is a good all-around stock in all regards. Needs no more explanation. Their Monte Carlo ($50) ....probably the single best replacement stock for an SKS you can find, bar none. The Ramline SKS stock ($50) (diff manufacturer) is great, but the ATI is the best. The Tapco 6-pos is not a bad stock in most regards, but it's a bit more expensive ($70)....I haven't had any complaints of any kind other than it took a few mins to fit it to the gun when first installed. Me, I tend to prefer solid stocks so a movable stock wouldn't be my first choice but it's your choice, not mine. It has the same low cheek prob as the ATI ultralight, so be prepared. Ramline also makes a pretty decent folder along the lines of the ATI....pretty much same price and same quality, just looks a bit diff. Butler Creek also makes a Monte Carlo "sporter" ($45) that I, personally, like a lot....but it's a stock that needs a small bit of fitting.
All of them fit fine....just some can take a file here and there to get this or that magazine to fit good etc. None are any real problem so that's pretty much a non-issue. Nothing to worry about there.
Ease of use....first time, expect a file here and there on some....and handguards can be a bitch that first time, but after that first time, you can switch that stock out and back to the original inside of two mins. The handguards just require you to Dremel the head off a single pin and punch it out with a hammer and nail. It's no big deal.
Be sure to stash all the original parts in a plastic bag and hide it in the closet just in case you ever want to switch back to the original configuration. Most re-buyers prefer the original parts....a lot of the fun of an SKS is outfitting it yourself.
Not going to get into the Sec 922 laws and regs on this one because, frankly, the number of SKS non-compliant arrests in the entire US of A can be counted on one hand. It's another non-issue in my book. If you're interested, do a web search on "SKS parts compliance law".
If you need anything else, feel free to ask. Always a pleasure.

ok i have a yuko sks with the ati ultralight stock bayonet lug cut off and a 20round tapco clip is this legal
stock does not have the folding retro kit in it locked out
the only law you are breaking is the 922(r) compliance. the assult weapon ban mentioned above is no no longer in effect, and hasn't been since 2004. however if you live in kalifornia, or some other states, they may have their own restrictions.
as far as compliance parts, i believe your sks has 18(don't quote me on this) so you need to replace 2 more parts(stock=3 assuming you replaced the handguard, mag=3) i believe taking off the bayonet, and replacing the gernade launcher with a barrel break should count as 2. if you want to leave those on, the gas tube and piston would be a good choice.
EDIT: also i have heard good things about those tapco mags. many of the older detachable mags were suposedly junk, and didn't work well, but the tapco is suposed to be very good. i also plan to buy one soon.
