Which bass should i buy? Jazz or Precision? ?

Which bass guitar should i buy? Jazz or Precision? It's basically the same model bass except one is a Jazz and the other is Precision and i have no idea what that means. I'm just going to start out playing bass and basically i want to play a metal/rock tune... which one should i go for?

The Jazz has two pickups, spread apart; your sound can be blended in-between the two positions.
The Precision (usually) has the single, split-pickup. You're stuck with that sound from that single pickup position.

Both of these are extremely popular, and you will see either one used by rock bassists, possibly with a slight edge in favor of the Precision bass.

To start out, I would personally recommend getting the single-pickup Precision bass.
Having less pickup options to fiddle with, you'll need to learn to control the sound with your hands more; position-wise, intensity-wise, dynamic-wise.
Later you could get a Jazz bass or other two (or more) pickup bass, and your knowledge of how to control the sound using just your hands and the strings will serve you very well.
