What are advantages and disadvantages of plywood over solid timber ?

An advantage to plywood is that you dont have to worry about the wood expanding to shrinking with the weather changes. it is more stable and wont check or split. The drawback is the thin veneer on the outside, if it gets damaged too deeply it will reveal the substrate and the peice will be ruined, with wood you could just sand or plane it out. Plywood is also difficult to work with hand tools. If you use plywood you will have to apply edgebanding so the plys dont show on the finished piece. Personally I hate plywood and only use it when I absolutley have too.
