How big is my dog going to be when she is fully grown?
I have a 7-8 week GSD x Border collie, and she is almost as big as my fullly grown King Charles Caverlier, just abit thinner, her Dad (GSD), is the one of the biggest dogs I have ever seen, and the Mum is average size for her breed (Border Collie) , how big do you think my dog is going to be??, (please don't say I don't know or look up on both breeds or coment on this sentence).
For Border Collies: "The height at the withers varies from 19" to 22" for males, 18" to 21" for females." They weigh between 40-50 pounds.
For GSDs: "The desired height for males at the top of the highest point of the shoulder blade is 24 to 26 inches; and for females, 22 to 24 inches" They weigh between 65-80 pounds.

If you own a pet dog or are planning to get one, you should plan to build a house for it. You can save quite a bit by building one yourself instead of going in for a pre-built one. With good plans to guide you, your task is made much easier.
The first step to be done is to measure your pet. The building has to be just right for your dog - neither too big nor too small. It would be a big disappointment indeed, if, after having worked for days, you find that the size is not right. If it is a puppy, then you have to ensure that your construction plans take into consideration the space requirements of your pet once it grows to its full size.
You also have to choose an ideal spot. It has to be a place which is neither sunny, nor too cold. It should also not be a low lying area, or a place where water collects. It should also not be too close to the boundary wall or fence, as your dog may use its home to climb over the fence and wander. The ground should be level. A place in the shade of a tree would be ideal.
You may need to check your state code to see if it permits the building of an additional structure in your property. If required, you may have to get necessary permission from the authorities so that your plans can proceed without hindrance.
You may choose to build either an elaborate construction matching your house, or a simple one, depending on your carpentry skills. Irrespective of whether you are good with woodwork, or are a beginner, good plans would help you in doing a better job. If you live in a place which gets too cold in the winter, or too hot in the summer, the construction has to be insulated. Necessary instructions for doing this may be got from the plans.
Before setting out to build, it is best to keep all the tools and materials ready. Most of the tools required are those readily found in any house such as a tape measure, hammer and saw. The materials required would depend on your plans. After having decided on the size of the dog house, and having referred to the plans and got a firm idea of the work required, you can start on your work. You may also enlist the help of your family members to make it more fun and easier. It is best to have the floor sloping towards the entrance so as to drain off any water which may get inside. Proper ventilation should be provided. Another requirement is a roof with hinges, so that it can be easily lifted and the dog house cleaned. It is best to clean your dog every time you give it a bath.
Once it is ready, it is time to give the dog house a coat of safe sealant and paint. Your plans would give you more advice on this. It should be equipped with a bed and blanket, too.
It may take some time for your pet to get used to its new house, especially if it has never stayed in a dog house before. So, you have to be patient, until it gets used to it. Dogs usually like to have a place of its own, and should usually take to its new home fairly soon.
A dog house is a wonderful present that you can give to your pet. You would feel all the more pleased with it when you build it yourself, following instructions from good plans.
