im looking to buy a rifle scope for my sks for hunting?

i have narrowed it down to one but they have two versions ones basic and the other is described as having scope body is rubber armored for tactical use ....from personal experience is it worth the extra money ?

The scope mount I used on a friend's SKS was a receiver mount , that I drilled 4 holes into the receiver, then tapped them (threaded) then screwed the mount into the side. Very sturdy! Unfortunately the barrel and receiver were not square so the windage had to be cranked all the way over. We could have taken a grinder to the mount and tapered it, but... We didn't.

After shooting from a bench I learned that as the barrel got hotter the group would move. It would string to the right and up. So if you shot only one round every 5 minutes it wasn't noticeable. But if you shot more than that you could watch the groups slowly rise up and to the right. Apparently not all SKS are held to such high manufacturing tolerances and the bores are not always drilled exactly center. So the walls of the barrel heat and bend at different rates.

The scopes you are talking about sound like the Chinese stuff or the NcStar brand. Both are not very expensive and frankly not very good. They will magnify but may not maintain a point of aim throughout the range of magnification. It's definitely the ole make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, but If you have a better scope... at least you will know what is the rifle and what is the scope as far as the accuracy.. I used the Choate Machine and Tool mount.
