Command Arms

Command Arms

How do you guys feel about an officer asking our soldiers to register their personal arms?

Down in Kentucky, an officer asked the men under his command to submit the serial numbers and location of all personal firearms, and if they have a concealed carry permit, the issuing State and license number. How's that grab you? I gotta say, it ticks me right the heck off! You guys kick butt!

if your talking about the Military, this has been the norm for years. If you live in the barracks, you have to register your weapon with the provost Marshall, and it is kept in the arms room. if you live on post in post housing, you have to register it, but you can keep it at your quarters, but if you have children, they give you a gun lock also.

if you live off post, you don't have to register it on post, but most commanders ask that you do. it is not mandatory

I really think it is a good Idea, having been in the military I know what a drunken 19 year old will do. it is for the safety of all involved.

In the case you posted, the commander went over the line. but once again being prior military i am giving him the benefit of doubt, and thinking he was trying to make things safe for all involved.

When I returned from Operation Desert storm, we had 3 murders in about 5 days from guys who had guns. I personally stopped one guy from shooting his wife.

anger, and alcohol (the military has lots of drunks) and guns do not go well together.
